The Spirits Play Online (2021-2022)

This is part of our The Future Asia Project, a continuation of the Southernmost Project and long-term intercultural exchange and performance creation.

In this online R&D, Kuo Pao Kun’s The Spirits Play will be used as a starting point for devising to explore the malleable nature of war and peace in the context of contemporary Asia. The crossover and dialogue of the following art forms will be also explored: Ryukyu Dance, Japanese Noh Theatre, Javanese Classical dance, Chinese Traditional Kun Opera and Contemporary theatre/dance.

At the end of this R&D, we hope to work with five artists in different countries to develop an online presentation, which will serve as the basis for the next stage of creation. The final presentation can be made public to invited guests, potential presenters, and more.
