Engagement via Facebook: #offstage2.0
Offstage 2.0 is an attempt to rethink the value of theatre. We investigate the question: What is the value of theatre from the perspective of different roles?
Value can be a question of economics, but there are also societal values, ethical values, aesthetic values. We will interview key decision makers in Singapore’s cultural ecosystem about the value of theatre. What is the value of theatre from their different perspectives? What value do they offer to theatre? What are the values that guide their decision making? Are these values similar, or different and complementary, or different and in conflict with each other? How do these values impact theatre making in Singapore?
We will continue our research on off stage roles through role-playing and also role-changing. Through a process of research and creation, we will work toward a production. However, this production will never be staged. Instead, audiences will be invited to observe the process. By doing away with the product/show, we attempt to bring focus back to the value of the process.
