Huang Suhuai
Huang Suhuai (b. 1984) is a multidisciplinary artist-curator whose practice traverses visual art, theatre, and socially engaged work. Her work explores themes of identity, memory, and the relationship between the human body and everyday objects. This investigation takes form through drawing, mixed-media installations, experimental theatre, and participatory practices.
She is the founder of Plain Studio and currently serves as Executive Director of Emergency Stairs, where she continues to expand her artistic research through curatorial projects and cross-disciplinary collaborations. Her recent initiatives include the cross-media theatre production Seahigh (四海), the community arts programme River Initiatives (江创计划), and the interdisciplinary lab InterFlux (汇流带).
Suhuai graduated with First-Class Honours in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts and received the International Takifuji Art Award from the Japan Traffic Culture Association in 2020.
In addition to her visual arts practice, Suhuai is active in theatre and literature. She has written and translated over ten plays staged in Singapore, and her poetry, fiction, and critical writings have appeared across various platforms.
